Depending on the model, they are typically made from high-quality materials such as sheepskin, suede, or synthetic materials that mimic sheepskin’s soft and luxurious texture.

We’ve all been there- wearing our go-to UGGs out in the rain only to come home with the suede around the toes badly stained.

While some UGG boots are labeled as machine-washable, can you put UGGs in the washing machine, regardless of the material? Luckily, I have the answer for you.

Unfortunately, I strongly advise against putting the UGGs in the washing machine. I know how easy it sounds- just pop the boots in the washing machine, turn on the correct cycle, and let them dry.

However, washing UGGs in the machine can lead to irreversible damage and affect their appearance and durability.

Here’s why you should avoid using the washing machine on your UGG boots:

UGG boots are often made from sheepskin or suede, which are delicate materials that the agitation and high speed of the washing machine can easily damage. The machine can cause the sheepskin or suede to shrink, lose shape, or become discolored.

Moreover, they are cozy and fluffy, and putting them into the washing machine at a high temperature will only cause them to lose the fluffiness inside. It will undoubtedly damage the suede or the shape of the skin’s outer layer.

UGG boots often have sheepskin lining or padding, which can also be affected by machine washing. The lining may become matted, lose its softness, or develop an unpleasant odor when exposed to excess water.

Also, the washing machine can weaken the adhesives that hold the soles of the UGG boots, causing them to separate or peel off.

Instead of machine washing, follow these steps to clean your UGG boots safely:

Use a soft-bristled brush or a suede brush to remove dirt and debris from the surface of the boots.

Gently brush in one direction to avoid damaging the fibers.

For small stains, use a damp cloth with a mild detergent specially formulated for suede or sheepskin.

Gently dab the stained area, and avoid soaking the boots with excessive water.

After spot cleaning, stuff the boots with paper towels or newspaper to help them retain their shape. Avoid using direct heat or sunlight to dry them, as it can cause shrinkage and damage.

Let them air dry in a cool, well-ventilated area to prolong their life.

Material damage
